The North Face

The North Face has been a leader in high-performance exploration since 1966.  Founded by husband and wife Suzie and Doug Tompkins, opened a small store in North Beach, San Fransisco.  The two hiking enthusiasts who followed their passion wanted to make exploration gear accessible with no gimmicks.  Soon thereafter The North Face team designed and manufactured its own brand of technical mountaineering apparel and equipment, showcasing the infamous Half Done Logo from Yosemite National Park.  The Logo represents the coldest and most unforgiving side of the mountain.  

By the early 1980s, The North Face was taking exploration to the outer limits of the ski world, adding extreme skiwear to the product offering. These were the days of pastels, neons, hair dye, and mohawks they laid the groundwork for today's free-spirited snowsports athletes. By the end of the decade, The North Face became the only supplier in the United States to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, sleeping bags, packs and tents.
